Connecting national processes at European level enriches the approaches for individuals working in their respective national youth work fields. The second Exchange Forum - that took place from 10 to 12 May 2023 in Germany - brought together 50 participants from 27 countries. They used the opportunity to further develop the cooperation between the national processes and to continue the building of support for organisations and institutions, to be able to implement a successful Bonn Process. The common purpose of the Exchange Forum ultimately is to make youth work stronger and develop it further.

‘Youth in Urban Space’ was a two year Erasmus+ Youth project. It took place from 2020 to 2022 and concluded with a conference in January of 2023. Werner Prinzjakowitsch of the Association of Viennese Youth Centres shared insights and outcomes in an interview with us.

The 3rd Bonn Process Meet-up took place online on 28 and 29 March and invited all youth work actors across Europe to exchange on current challenges, develop joint ideas on how to meet them, and share own concrete projects and practices.

The outbreak of the Covid pandemic was the beginning of an unprecedented period that has had a major impact on the youth sector. Young people and youth work experts have suffered considerably, and the youth work system has been shaken to the core in many countries. However, it is already foreseeable that the pandemic will not be the last major challenge the youth work field will have to navigate.

Promoting an active national youth work environment is at the core of youth work development in Georgia. Nino Mikhanashvili shared with us on the establishment of policy frameworks and the national Youth Work Convention in Georgia as two central pillars of the national process in Georgia.

Stronger recognition, a developed digital youth work system and better mental health support - Monika Paulauskaitė shared with us on the vision of youth work in Lithuania and how the European Youth Work Agenda supports realising it.

Between the 2nd and 4th November 2022, in Bonn Germany, a conference took place titled, “Youth Work, Culture and Education: European Trilogue-Conference on Cultural Youth Education”. Rolf Witte, one of the organisers of the event, shares some insights on this event. The conference took place in the framework of the Bonn Process for the implementation of the European Youth Work Agenda, and as a contribution to the European Year of Youth.

How can the Bonn Process be a support in the development of national level policies? Sara Barriga Brighenti took part in the “Youth Work, Culture and Education: European Trilogue-Conference on Cultural Youth Education”. She shares with us the example of the National Plan for the Arts (NPA) in Portugal, where the European Youth Work Agenda and the Bonn Process are providing guidance for its development.

The European Youth Work Agenda aims to boost youth work. Established as a strategic framework, it intends to strengthen and further develop youth work practice and policies in Europe.

Tina Kosi is the Acting Director for Youth at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia and is heading up the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth. Tina shared with us one of the biggest developments currently underway in the Slovenian youth sector. This development is the ‘Strategic Plan for the Implementation of the European Youth Work Agenda in Slovenia’ (Strategic Plan), which is part of the National Youth Programme (NYP) 2023-2032.
