Young People with Migration Background and Equal Opportunities
Young people with migration background do not have equal access to the job market, education and social participation. Various international studies state that they are often underprivileged in their everyday life (e.g. Europe’s Social Reality by the Bureau of the European Policy Advisers). Therefore, it is presently one of the key social objectives to bring about a change to this situation– throughout Europe and worldwide.
Young People with Migration Background and Mobility
Short term and long term youth exchanges as well as international exchange programmes for youth workers and other international projects can be a valuable tool to integrate young people with migration background and promote cultural and social diversity. International experiences facilitate active participation and intercultural learning in authentic surroundings. The methods used in international youth work focus on young peoples’ competencies instead of on deficits and development needs.
Based upon this principle, IJAB and Youth for Europe have together developed the JiVE project. JiVE (Jugendarbeit international – Vielfalt erleben) is the German acronym for “Youth Work International – Experiencing Diversity”. JiVE aims to integrate youth with migration background in and through international projects and to promote the opening towards cultural and social diversity in youth work.
The Partnership Building Activity is the second of three international, cross-sectoral events in the JiVE project. It facilitates the development of international partnerships by planning concrete international projects with youth with migration background.
The Partnership Building Activity Offers
• the opportunity to discover and create international partnerships to plan international projects with youth with migration background
• support for the partnerships to develop a project and to plan concrete steps for its implementation as well as feedback on their first ideas
• information about funding and support tools (e.g. project management, good practice, intercultural learning, links and networks to look for further help) based on the individual needs of the partnerships / project teams
• besides the activity itself, a preparation phase with an introduction into the topic and a follow-up phase with support and feedback on the first steps towards the realisation of the project (until the end of December 2009)
